Engineering Wing was Established to undertake / execute projects of specialized nature instead of C&W like provision of Hockey Turf, Athletic Tracks, Establishment of Parks, resting areas and Picnic spots etc. Keeping in view of these objectives, the Engineering Wing was established through a summary in March 2012.

Engineering Wing was regularized by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Employees (Regularization of Services) Act-2018 on 7 March, 2018. A summary was moved to Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to declare Engineering Wing of Directorate General of Sports Department as Directorate of Works & Implementation working directly under Sports, Tourism, Culture, Archeology and Youth Affairs Department for timely execution of all infrastructure projects by strengthening its human resource for the purpose and the same has been duly approved in March, 2022.
